St. George's School
Flag Raising Program

9 B
SENSE OF BELONGING
JANUARY 18 TH 2008

INTRODUCTION

This flag raising is dedicated to our school that has become our second home. Giving us more than only education, teaching more than just academic lessons, it had taught us to love, to be proud of belonging somewhere, and to feel identified with the place where we grow up. Today we want to honor those students that feel love for our school.

•  READING by Tatiana Gomez.

Writing about “sense of belonging” brings many things to my mind…like people, groups and societies to which I belong.

My family, my friends, the team in which I play, have helped me to develop a strong character and different abilities, such as learning to give and receive, shaping my personality and being understanding and respectful.

I think the sense of belonging is what bonds me to society, making me feel useful and giving me the opportunity to love and be loved. That sense of belonging makes me feel important because when you belong to something, there is an exchange of emotions due to the relationships that take place. As we all know human beings are naturally sociable.

For me belonging to something is feeling alive and having the strength to fight in order to be better.

In conclusion, it is the sense of belonging what makes us better human beings, as long as we don't let others control us. We should not be close to those people, things or groups that could harm us in any way. So avoid fanatism and intolerance.

•  READING “SENSE OF BELONGING” by Camila Montoya.

As individuals we feel the need to be part of a group, a family or a society. Here at Saint George's School we don't only have the opportunity to belong to this amazing community but also to take part of different teams and musical groups.

Since we took our first steps in this institution we got involved in all the activities, such as houses competitions, Christmas shows and the “sports day” in which, besides the students, our parents participated too.

As we get older we began to realize how important the school has become for us, because it's not only our second home, but it's also the place where we have spent the best moments of our lives.

In addition, we have met people who have become essential to us and those are the ones we call friends.

However, not everything has been perfect as we have often suffered because of evaluations, homework and some teachers, but at the end all the effort is worth it as we still belong to this community. I am absolutely sure that we would never forget what we learnt in all those years but I am even more certain that our hearts will always be grateful to school for letting us be part of this family.
